Apprentice Geraldine hopes for tourism boost in her first TV show

FORMER Apprentice star Geraldine O'Callaghan has just landed her first TV presenting gig on a show she describes as "Nationwide meets Xpose".

THE Dublin entrepreneur is a producer and presenter on the show Our Place on Sky, which she hopes will showcase Ireland and help boost tourism.

"It's like Nationwide with Xpose presenters so it's more new, modern, fresh and funky. We cover local charity, business and sporting events.

"Channel 191 on Sky goes out to more than one million viewers across Europe, Russia and north Africa so we hope the show will help to draw in tourists."

The Dublin businesswoman said Our Place aims to show Ireland in the best possible light. "It's a really lovely community show, but it doesn't portray Ireland in the 'diddley diddley' sort of way, it's a real modern look at Ireland.

"There so much good work going on around the country and we want to showcase that community spirit. Ireland is known for being charitable and there are plenty examples of that."

Niche

Ms O'Callaghan said she saw a gap in the market for the show because of the recession.

"There's definitely a niche market there. Nowadays a lot of people can't afford the premium TV packages but channel 191 is available on Freesat and online.

"There was nothing there so me and a few others decided to start up our own show. Sky are so happy with the quality and content we produced that they asked what they could do to support us, so that's a great sign."

Ms O'Callaghan said friends in Spain and Italy have reported that people are starting to take an interest in the new show.

This week's show will feature fashion, motorsport and a boxing charity event as well as an interview with a top pianist.

The show has mostly been focused in Dublin but is hoping to extend is coverage nationwide.

Our Place airs on Sky Channel 191 on Thursday at 7pm.
