A facial is one of the easiest beauty treats to enjoy at home

ORIGINS Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask for Clearing Pores

Set aside time and space for this one, as it goes on dark grey like the charcoal in its name and you may like privacy to enjoy its benefits without getting slagged off by loved ones. This is great if you want a deep clean, and is also an excuse to treat yourself to a home spa experience.

SIMPLE Kind To Skin Deep Cleansing Face Mask,€4.99 HHIII

If your skin flares up when you even think about using a mask, you may like to give this a try. I got no joy out of it whatsoever - it felt like I was putting a cleanser on and leaving it. If you fear the face mask, this may be the right one for you.

AVEDA Enbrightenment Brightening Intensive Massage Masque

€54.60 HHHII

This is a massage masque, meaning that it's not enough to just slap this on yer gob: you need to spend time rubbing this round before you leave it to sit. The scent wasn't terribly nice, though.

LA ROCHE-POSAY Hydraphase Intense Masque, €16.50 HHHHI

This felt light as air on the face and yet I felt refreshed, revived, and radiant after use. Here's a good tip: I used a much thinner layer overnight and awoke really glowy. A little hero.

SKINCEUTICALS Clarifying Clay Mask, €65 HHHHH

Love everything about this: the texture is smooth as silk and goes on like satin; the scent is invigorating, so it feels like aromatherapy; it dries without getting too squinchy; it leaves behind a glowing, youthful face.

CLINIQUE Turnaround Instant Facial

A combination mask-exfoliation treatment. The 'instant' part is that as you apply, you are effectively doing a touch of microdermabrasion on your skin. This works best if applied before you get in the shower, and then rinse it off under the spray.

I tested a variety of masks and several of the below gave my skin a glow worthy of Jessica Chastain - not bad!
