colverde trentino chardonnay 2008, €4.99 (reduced from €10.99), Marks & Spencer. A terrific bargain for a fresh-as-a-mountain-stream dry white and just the kind of bargain you could find out about first on Twitter, as stock will disappear quickly. Perfect for parties.
- bastide de garille cabardès 2007, €11.99 but included in €10 meal deal package, Tesco. Simple prune-and-herb-scented southern French red that's not worth the alleged €11.99 price but it's effectively free as part of Tesco's meal deal as the food costs more than a tenner.
- d'arenberg the footbolt shiraz 2007, mclaren vale, €17.99 (€14.39 as part of a mixed case), Oddbins. @darenberg is one of the more interesting wineries to follow on Twitter, giving insight on and pictures of the current harvest and state of the industry. They also never make a duff wine. This is serious Shiraz that will happily wash down steak or curry.
