English job never one for winners
•Over the last few days, there's been a lot of talk about Roy Hodgson's trophy cabinet. In his career so far, he's won 11 -- albeit all in Scandinavia.
•But then you look at the previous careers of his six immediate English predecessors (in other words, excluding Fabio Capello and Sven Goran-Eriksson). The sum total of their trophies from the years before the FA's top job? Six. And that includes Bobby Robson.
•The only actual native title-winner England have employed since Don Revie has been Terry Venables, and his was with Barcelona.
•Of course, this isn't to say Hodgson is the right or wrong choice for England. The suspicion remains he's maybe not suited for a job with such massive expectations.
•But, when you consider the talk in the context of those trophy counts, those expectations are yet again wildly out of kilter -- especially when you're so insistent on a native manager.
