Duffner edges Pride in Texas
GOLF: Jason Dufner's rich run of form continued in Texas as he saw off Dicky Pride to win the Bryon Nelson Challenge in in a gripping finale.
The 35-year-old ended on 10-under par, seeing off Pride by a shot. Pádraig Harrington was seven behind the winner, despite a one-under final round of 69.
Mess-up denies Ennis
ATHLETICS: Jessica Ennis was last night left to rue a "massive mess-up" by race officials after she was denied a personal best in the 100 metres hurdles.
Officials setting up the barriers for the race at the Powerade Great CityGames failed to put out the final hurdle, rendering Ennis' impressive 12.75 seconds clocking invalid, but she still claimed victory ahead of Olympic champion Dawn Harper.
Bialoblocki first in Rás
CYCLING: THE opening stage of the 2012 An Post Rás saw Polish rider Marcin Bialoblocki (Node4 Giordana) sprint to victory in Kilkenny following a four man breakaway which just held off the chasing bunch.
Danish rider Jacob Nielsen (Blue Water) was second, Nicolas Baldo (Switzerland Atlas) finished third, while last year's Rás winner Gediminas Bagdonas (An Post Sean Kelly) finished sixth but moved up to fourth overall.
Sharapova beats Li
TENNIS: Maria Sharapova saved a match point and defied a two-hour rain delay as she staged a comeback to claim the Rome Masters title with a 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7/5) win over China's Li Na.
