Dublin U16s hoping to lift Reilly Cup
DUBLIN U16 FOOTBALLERS
DUBLIN'S U16 footballers will look to complete a successful Gerry Reilly Inter-county Football Tournament when they face Cavan in next Sunday's decider in Oldcastle (7.30).
Both finalists dominated their respective groups with Dublin enjoying handsome wins against Louth and Westmeath before completing their third straight victory when overcoming Meath by 3-15 to 0-7 last Sunday week.
Reigning holders, Cavan, have been similarly impressive as they comfortably topped Group A after decisive wins over Monaghan, Wicklow and Meath and Dublin manager Tom Gray expects the Ulster county to offer a stern examination of his side's credentials.
IMPRESSIVE
"Cavan have apparently been very impressive in the group stages and they will be a significant challenge in the final but irrespective of the outcome of the match on Sunday, the game will be a valuable learning experience for the squad," he said.
That panel currently contains 44 players with a healthy spread across the county ensuring over 20 clubs are represented on the squad.
Given that statistic, it's vital that Dublin take advantage of tournaments such as this to help blend team spirit and tactical awareness with Gray hugely positive about what he has witnessed from his charges up to now.
"There has been an excellent overall attitude from all of the players involved and they are showing great interest in improving.
"The Gerry Reilly Tournament plays a part in further developing the squad, particularly in getting up to game speed and encountering different styles of play.
"It has helped to give valuable game time to as many of the squad as possible although holidays have affected our selection and will continue to do so for the final on Sunday," added Gray.
