DUBLIN speed cameras pick up at least 130 drivers a day breaking the limit.

Garda figures show a total of 35,932 people were caught speeding in the Dublin region between January and September this year.

The stats also show that more than 1,000 drivers were arrested for intoxicated driving and almost 7,000 were caught using a mobile phone.

Pedestrians are the single biggest group to die on Dublin's roads - at 40pc of the total killed since 2008.

Gardai released the statistics yesterday as part of a 'Safer Roads for Dublin' campaign.

The Naas Road was listed as one of the top 10 speeding hotspots where drivers clocked up to 32km/h over the limit. Celbridge Road, Cappagh Road, Ballycullen Road, Temple Hill, Swords Road and Dublin Port Tunnel were also blacklisted in the report.

To date, 18 people have been killed on the capital's roads - seven of which were pedestrians - a figure which is likely to surpass last year's total of 19.

The traffic corps are launching a blitz on the city through social media and the distribution of high-visibility clothing.
