Different name, same old Pope

Anna Nolan

WITH the Pope about to step down in a few days, it will be fascinating to see who is chosen to lead an institution that is crumbling in front of our eyes.

With reports of leaks of underground groups, more allegations against cardinals and Catholics around the world sick to the teeth of cover-ups, the next Pope will have to be one extraordinary person to bring people back into the fold.

Or they could choose a man in his late 70s or 80s who will just keep things ticking along and dither his way through the next few years. Probably the latter.
