Deasy hits a brace to lift 'Knock

Ronan Mac Lochlainn

TWO second-half goals from substitute Conor Deasy proved crucial as Castleknock narrowly overcame Skerries Harps by 4-5 to 2-9 in their entertaining Dublin Adult Football League Division 6 tie at Somerton Park on Sunday morning.

With Damien Griffin, Damien O'Grady and Daragh McCormack featuring prominently, Castleknock seized control after the break and Deasy's brace, including one from the penalty spot, in addition to further goals from Stephen Byrne and a spectacular effort from Paul Hughes, saw the hosts home with two points to spare.

In Rush, St Maur's produced a disciplined defensive effort when accounting for St Anne's by 0-10 to 1-2, with four points from midfielder Ryan Beggs particularly telling in a low-scoring encounter.

Liam Butterly, Philip Kavanagh and Brian Gallagher personified the efforts of the home rearguard while two points from Conor McGuinness and three from John Crosbie were sufficient for Maur's over the hour.

Arguably the most impressive display of the day arrived in Islandbridge as Civil Service proved far too strong for Clontarf, winning by 1-17 to 2-3.

In a strong, all-round performance, Tom Cassidy set the tone between the sticks and with the energy of Tom Molan and Barry O'Sullivan particularly noticeable, the hosts pulled clear with Mick Malone, Derek Tansey and James Flavin sharing 1-10 of their imposing total.

It was a far tighter contest at the Iveagh Grounds as Keith Hendricks kicked an injury-time point to secure a last-gasp 1-5 to 0-7 win for St James' Gaels over St Sylvester's.

Ross Mulvaney, Conor Dunne, Aaron Byrne and Sean Wilton all shone for the hosts with Hendricks' first-half goal and two points from centre-forward Daragh Kenny vital scores for Larry Quinn's charges.

Meanwhile, in Hyde Park, two second-half penalties from Mark O'Grady allowed Cuala to defeat Kilmacud Crokes with the contributions of Cathal Ó Giolláin, Kevin Reid, Ronan McKenna, Brian Ó Ruairc and Sean Barron central to victory.
