Commitments comeback very timely

Gerry O'Carroll

I WAS delighted to read that Roddy Doyle is penning a sequel to The Commitments, his classic tale of the quintessential north Dublin family, the Rabbittes. No better time, either.

Doyle's Barrytown Trilogy summed up the 1980s recession in the capital, so it's apt that he's writing about our latest economic crash.

Hopefully this new book will also make it to the big screen. I remember the filming in Dublin of Alan Parker's original movie starring the beautiful Angeline Ball, above, because my daughter had a very small role in it -- speaking four words.

She's been calling herself a film star ever since!
