Comedian Al Porter in talks for his own radio show on 2fm

There's a major shake-up happening at 2fm and comedian Al Porter has revealed he's in talks for his own show.

The Tallaght native has become a firm favourite at the national broadcaster since he started co-hosting the Colm Hayes Show on 2fm.

Colm's show is switching to Saturday afternoons, but Al says he may not be moving with him.

"I am definitely going to be staying on radio, it just hasn't been decided if I'll be staying with Colm or doing my own show," he told the Herald.

"There is talk of me getting my own slot and 2fm will be announcing quite a line-up change in September. It will all be revealed then.

"If I move to the weekends, I'll spend more time gigging in London."

The 22-year-old is also rumoured to be fronting his own variety show on RTE2.

The format is believed to be a mix of comedy sketches and guests.

Before that starts he will be back on our screens as part of RTE's coverage of Electric Picnic in September.

"Myself, Eoghan McDermott and Jenny Greene will be doing it again," he said.

"Eoghan is allowed to talk to the talent but I'm only allowed to chat to the punters so I go around talking to all the mad revellers.

"I get to have fun and crawl into people's tents and have the real festival experience - all while in my three piece suit from Louis Copeland," he laughed.

Al is one of the headline acts at the Vodafone Comedy Festival which starts tonight.

Comedians like Tommy Tiernan, Deirdre O'Kane (inset) and Jason Byrne will be performing at the festival in the Iveagh Gardens, which runs until this Sunday.

"It's only my second year performing and I'm already headlining, which is incredible," he said.

"On Friday, the Al Porter Comedy Shed - which is the comedy club I run - will have a slot. So I got to pick all the comedians for that which was deadly."

After the festival, Al will be decamping to Edinburgh for a month for the fringe festival.

"I still live at home so I'm looking forward to moving in with Karl Spain for the month - it'll be mad," he said.

"We're writing the Olympia panto together, so we'll be coming up with ideas while we're there.

"I'm having great fun writing the villain - they're the best characters."
