Coach Kelly striving to raise goalkeeping standards

Goalkeeping gloves... top goalkeeping coach Gary Kelly is pleased to see Shane Supple come into the frame for a Dublin place.

"The more competition the better. That's the way I look at it," states Gary, who trained the Monaghan intercounty keepers.

"Shane would have been getting the best of goalkeeping coaching at Ipswich Town and that will be of huge benefit to him.

"There's not enough goalkeeping coaching in GAA. It's an area that certainly can be improved. It's all about lifting the standards."

Gary won Dublin and Leinster gold with Parnells and he also wore the number one jersey for Naomh Fionnbarra.

He was also an Irish junior soccer international.

Next month he begins an eight-week coaching and fitness training course for club goalkeepers.

It begins on February 3 and it will take place at DCU.

It's limited to 16 goalkeepers. More details from Gary on 087-6360939 or garykelly5@eircom.net.
