Cleared gardai to fight probe

FOUR gardai who were acquitted of assault are challenging the conduct of internal Garda disciplinary proceedings against them.

Alan Conlon, Eoin Murtagh, Claire Delaney and Sean O'Leary were informed last month that a Chief Superintendent would investigate alleged breaches of Garda discipline by them.

Earlier this year, a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court cleared all four of all charges against them, including forcing entry to a flat in Dublin and assaulting Owen Gaffney on February 17, 2008.

The four say they have not been told the details of their alleged breaches of discipline.

Mr Justice Michael Peart granted them leave to bring the challenge, and the matter will be dealt with next month.
