Casino winner is robbed of €5k after car rammed on motorway
A MAN was robbed of his casino winnings when his car was rammed on a motorway and he was beaten up by a gang.
The shocking incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Investigating gardai believe that the gang were deliberately following the man after he left Fitzpatrick's casino in Limerick city with an estimated €5,000.
Four people – all from Limerick city – were arrested in connection with the theft.
After leaving the casino, the Pakistan national drove to the Southern Ring Road when his car was rammed from behind at 1.40am.
The vehicle stopped and he was threatened with a knife, beaten and robbed of the €5,000 before the gang attempted to flee the area.
SEARCHES
The victim was brought to hospital but has since been discharged.
Four people, two men and two women, were arrested yesterday afternoon in follow up searches by gardai at Roxboro Road.
The two men, aged 25 and 31, are still being questioned in Roxboro Road under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The two women, aged 28 and 31, were taken to Henry Street garda station.
One woman remains in custody and the other was released yesterday afternoon.
A file is being prepared for the DPP.
Investigations are continuing.
