BUS EIREANN has unveiled a swanky new fleet of Expressway coaches which they hope will entice commuters to ditch their car in favour of public transport.
The new luxury buses will feature super fast 4G wi-fi, reclining leather seats, air-con and USB sockets for charging phones and tablets. The 20 coaches will cost an eye-watering €460,000 each and are due to enter service next week operating across 23 intercity routes.
Bus Eireann is marketing the new fleet as "like the car, only better".
Special ISOFIX mounting points for child seats also feature in the new cabins to allow safer travel for passengers with young children. The buses were built through a "joint-venture partnership" of Irizar in Spain and Westward Scania in Roscommon.
"Over €9.2m was invested in the 20 new vehicles that form part of Bus Eireann's commercial fleet," a spokesperson for the company said.
The carrier also revealed plans to add another 40 premium coaches to Expressway network throughout 2015 and into 2016.
Bus Eireann chief executive Martin Nolan said the luxury fleet represented a "major service upgrade" for customers.
