NEWLY-crowned Footballer of the Year, Alan Brogan, is expected to return to action for St Oliver Plunkett's/ER for next Saturday's Evening Herald Dublin SFC semi-final showdown with Lucan Sarsfields.

Brogan missed Plunkett's quarter-final and last 16 victories after undergoing minor knee surgery but is fit to play some part against Lucan after the pair were drawn out together in the draw.

Plunkett's - seeking a first county title in their history - take on Thomas Davis' conquerors in Parnell Park at 3.0 while the day's second semi between St Brigid's and Ballymun Kickhams throws in at 4.30.

Aussies axe Sylvia

AUSTRALIA'S International Rules management have decided to drop Melbourne player, Colin Sylvia, from their squad for the upcoming two-test series with Ireland after he left the scene of a car accident at the weekend.

The Melbourne player was a passenger in his own car when it crashed in the early hours of Sunday morning but left before speaking to police.

"I spoke to Colin today and advised him he would not join the squad," explained AFL General Manager of Football Operations, Adrian Anderson.

"His preparation to join the Australian team was not acceptable for the standards we require for this series.

"Colin's conduct to leave the scene of an accident, in which he had been as a passenger in his own car, was not illegal but was not appropriate in our view."

GARRYCASTLE made it three Westmeath SFC titles in-a-row yesterday when they beat Mullingar Shamrocks by 1-9 to 0-9 in Cusack Park, Dessie Dolan kicking six points (five frees) for the victors.

Elsewhere, Ballintubber pipped Castlebar by 1-10 to 1-9 to lift the Mayo football title and Dromore clinched a third Tyrone crown in five years with a 1-8 to 2-4 win over Clonoe.

In hurling, Crusheen made it back-to-back Clare SHC titles with a 0-10 to 0-4 defeat of Sixmilebridge.
