Bosnia call up Dzeko for Dublin

BOSNIA have included Manchester City star Edin Dzeko in their squad for next week’s friendly against Ireland in Dublin.

Ireland face Bosnia for the first time at senior or U21 level when the nations meet at Lansdowne Road on Saturday week and coach Safet Susic has underlined a serious approach to the Ireland match – the first of two summer friendlies for the Bosnians – by naming a strong 22-man panel.

Sucic has called in players from top clubs in Spain (Seville defender Emir Spahic, previously a target for Arsenal), Italy (Roma’s Miralem Pranjic) and a few from the Russian league but the stand-out name is Manchester City man Dzeko, who has scored 20 goals in 42 internationals for the side, just two behind the country’s all-time scoring record.

Keeper Asmir Begovic – a Stoke City team-mate of Irish pair Glenn Whelan and Jonathan Walters – is also in the panel.

After the game with Ireland, Bosnia head to the USA for a |friendly with Mexico in Chicago.
