Body of fisherman found14km off coast

A BODY recovered off the coast of Dublin is believed to be that of a missing fisherman.

A post mortem to determine the cause of death was being carried out today at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.

The grim discovery was made by the 50ft Rath Eilte vessel as it was fishing in coastal waters off Skerries yesterday.

The remains of the man, who was fully clothed and wearing black and yellow fisherman's oilskin trousers, were brought up in the nets of the trawler 14km off the coast of Skerries.

They are thought to be those of a Ukrainian man in his 30s who fell overboard from the Zenith fishing boat on January 29 about 14km from Clogherhead in Co Louth.

After finding the body, the Balbriggan based trawler contacted the Coast Guard. The Skerries lifeboat met the trawler and the body was transferred.

Gardai will rely on forensic tests, including dental records, to establish the man's identity.
