Blue banner sure to fly high on road to Clare

JOHN Kenny came on the radio. He brought grim tidings from Portlaoise.

Forty three minutes on the watch and Dublin trailed Tipperary by eight points in the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship.

It looked like there would be nothing to write home about. But then the Comeback Kids got into their stride. And they almost achieved a remarkable recovery.

At the finish, they lost by a point, 1-13 to 2-9. But they'll take plenty of positives on the bus to Clare next Saturday.

As the tie entered its last pages, the atmosphere in O'Moore Park was crackling.

VOLUME

It was akin to the volume on Centre-Court as Heather Watson came within two points of knocking out Serena Williams.

The hurling support got fully behind their sisters. It showed the benefit of the double-headers.

It will be Dublin's third game of the Championship. So far there have been defeats to Kilkenny and Tipp, but the blue hat is still very much in the ring.

The Dubs beat Clare in the League last March. Clare have played just the one Championship game, a loss to the Cats.

Kilkenny top the table on six points after their three wins. Tipp are two points behind following their two victories.

Cait Devane had a stormer for them on Saturday.

But once again, Dublin's Ali Maguire produced an exceptional performance.

Siobhan Kehoe adds that sense of dash to the attack, while Sarah O'Donovan got a thundering goal.

Another boost was the return to action of Ali Twomey.
