Big boost for gaming

IRELAND could double its employment in the gaming sector to 4,500 employees, a new report has found.

Forfas has outlined expectations that the games industry globally is expected to grow to $82.4bn (¤60bn) by 2015.

The Games Sector in Ireland: An Action Plan for Growth study was prepared at the request of jobs minister Richard Bruton in coordination with Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland.

It says Ireland can boost employment and position ourselves as one of the most digitally advanced environments.

"We in Ireland could create jobs in the sector for an extra 2,500 within three years," said Mr Bruton.

"I am determined to work hard with my colleagues across Government to deliver on this plan and ensure that the digital games sector can make a real contribution to growing jobs again."
