Baz gets over losing his 2fm slot with news he's going to be a father again
RTE's Baz Ashmawy (36) may have lost his 2fm weekend radio slot because of cutbacks in the national broadcaster, but it's not all bad news for the madcap personality: the Diary can exclusively reveal that he's expecting baby number two with partner Tanya Evans.
The news that she is due her sixth child in the autumn couldn't have come at a better time for the couple, given his recent disappointment at RTE.
"I'm over the moon, as you would expect," he said. "A bit of good news at this time is always welcome. We will soon have six kids in the house, so it's going to be like a zoo.
"Tanya is 20 weeks now, so she is due in October. And that will really put manners on me. It gives you a bit of perspective, I suppose. It's a shame about the show, but I am looking forward to a really exciting event for the family."
His long-term girlfriend has four children from a previous relationship and gave birth two years ago to a baby girl who they named Hannah.
He is expected to share the happy news on one of his last shows with sidekick Lucy Kennedy. Their early-morning radio show on 2fm will leave the airwaves at the end of the month.
The duo's programme is just one of a number of casualties at the station as bosses scramble to keep their finances in check.
But at least he'll be kept busy with various new projects, including joining forces with BBC chat-show host Graham Norton for a charity motorbike run across the US.
