Balcony collapse leaves four dead and 14 injured
The Angers balcony building
Four people were killed and 14 injured when a balcony collapsed in Angers, western France, during a house-warming party, local authorities and media said.
Authorities in the Maine-et-Loire region said the accident occurred late on Saturday night, when a balcony on the third floor of the recently constructed building gave way.
A spokesman for the city's University Hospital said 10 people injured in the accident were admitted, one of whom was in a serious condition. Another four were treated at a clinic.
The Ouest France newspaper said the people standing on the balcony were young, and enjoying a house-warming party.
The duty manager at the hospital, Michel Pichon, told France Info radio that all the injured "were about 20 years old, certainly students".
