Awards night a real winner

The crowd erupted. Some 400 strong at the Westmanstown Centre in Lucan last Friday night. The awards night was a spectacular sell-out success.

The president, Aileen Lawlor, was among the VIPs. The proud Dub, a daughter of Crumlin, had much to applaud. Officials are saying that it was the best Dublin presentation night in history.

Having All-Ireland champs in the room was a help. The county was celebrating its first All-Ireland U16 Championship in 30 years.

Paul Beecher made a speech that Barack Obama would have been thrilled with. Dublin's future is wrapped in optimism.

The National Division 4 crown was on display at the top table. There were a glittering array of cups and medals.

The club awards went to Commercials (small), Good Counsel (mid-size) and Naomh Bríd (large).

Dublin also created a slice of history when Anne Griffin converted the first known two-pointer sideline cut. She did that in the OZO Senior 1 Championship final at St Peregrine's. She was honoured with a nice memento for her deed.

Gerry O'Sullivan acted as MC. None better. He conducted several interviews up on the stage. Everybody was whistling an upbeat tune, even those two double agents in the dark glasses!
