TO add insult to injury Mayor Slow is to take delivery of a new E45k Volvo sporting the first citizen’s iconic 12 D 1 number plate.

He may not be travelling at speed but at least he’ll be travelling in luxury as the executive saloon comes with leather upholstery and heated front and rear seats.

The free car was announced by the Swedish brand last week flagging it’s green credentials.

Andrew Montague, was nicknamed Mayor Slow after he proposed a 30kmh speed limit in the city centre, which was adopted by the city council. It was later dropped along the quays, after the idea drove city motorists around the bend.

Vincent Norton, Executive Manager in the Office of the Lord Mayor commented: “The Volvo S80 provides the perfect blend of a luxury executive vehicle which in the DRIVe version offers an incredibly low emission diesel engine that falls into the lowest emissions band.”
