Army defuses roadside bomb

A small bomb has been defused by army explosives experts outside Newry, Co Down.

Police confirmed that a device discovered close to a roundabout on the main Belfast to Dublin road was "viable".

The security alert caused major traffic disruption on one of the busiest days on he North's roads.

Dissident republicans opposed to the peace process have been blamed for planting the bomb.

US police say they've found a gun they believe was used in a deadly shooting rampage at a California college.

Officers have been combing waterways and rubbish bins since Monday, when a gunman opened fire at tiny Oikos University, killing seven people and wounding three others.

One Goh surrendered to authorities and was charged with seven counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Investigators said Goh would not tell them the location of the .45-calibre semi-automatic handgun used in the shooting.

seeks new trial

A man convicted of killing his wife and infant daughter in their suburban home has asked the highest court in Massachusetts to order a new trial.

Lawyers for Briton Neil Entwistle asked the Supreme Judicial Court to decide whether police had the right to search the Entwistles' rented home in Hopkinton after they received worried calls from family and friends.

Police discovered the bodies of Rachel Entwistle and nine-month-old Lillian Rose in bed.

Hail chaos hits

1,900 US flights

American Airlines has cancelled an additional 296 flights as repairs continued on planes grounded by hail damage in Texas.

A spokeswoman said that the cancellations affected flights in and out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, American's biggest hub.

Since Tuesday's storms, American and its American Eagle affiliate have canceled about 1,900 flights.
