Amy's The Stag set to smash box office records

HER husband had another brilliant rugby weekend, but actress Amy Huberman has plenty to smile about in her own working life.

Her latest comedy, The Stag, is on the road to becoming the most successful Irish film in three years.

It looks set to be crowned the best-selling native film at Irish box offices since The Guard in 2011.

A comic take on an Irish stag-do gone wrong, the John-Butler movie had grossed €465,000 at the Irish box office by Friday, and was expected to break the €500,000 mark by the end of the weekend.

It is welcome news for the Irish film industry after releases including Citadel and Grabbers fell flat.

The Stag, which sees Dublin actor and writer Hugh O'Connor in the role of Amy's fiance, has also secured international releases across Europe, New Zealand and North America.

It features the mum-of-one as a bride-to-be who forces her uptight fiance to let his hair down and go on a stag with her wild brother.

The film has been faring moderately across the water. Released there three weeks ago, it was No 17 in the British charts for its first two weeks.

But this success was largely down to its Irish box office intake, which is included in calculations for the UK charts.

Amy was her usual glamorous self when she turned out in a hot pink Lennon-Courtney top for the film's UK premiere at Leicester Square in London earlier this month.
