Aldi goes more Irish

DISCOUNT retailer Aldi has announced a three-fold increase in the amount of goods it buys from Irish suppliers.

The German company said that the decision to push up Irish stock has been growing over the past five years.

Over 20,000 jobs are maintained across the country's food industry as a result.

The group said it has recruited over 60 new Irish suppliers, bringing the total to 125.

More than 50pc of all grocery sales at Aldi are now generated from products that have been obtained from Irish suppliers, a company spokesman announced.
