a 45-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with stealing more than €30,000 during a cash-in-transit raid in Dublin.

Dublin District Court heard it was alleged a security guard was tied up with cable ties and threatened he would be shot during the robbery at Emmet Road, in Inchicore on November 11, 2013.

Paul Clarke from Clonard Road, Crumlin, Dublin is accused of robbery, false imprisonment and threatening to kill or cause serious harm in connection with the incident. He made no reply when charged yesterdayand was remanded on bail pending the preparation of a book of evidence.

Garda Shane Noone told Judge Cormac Dunne it was alleged a cash-in-transit van had pulled up at Emmet Road. The security man was restrained with cable ties and he was put in the back of the van. It was alleged the raiders then proceeded to steal €31,600 in coins.

"The driver was told to keep his head down or he would be shot," said Gda Noone.

Judge Dunne noted the DPP has directed Mr Clarke should be tried on indictment meaning the case will go forward to the circuit court. There was no objection to bail subject to Mr Clarke obeying conditions.

He was released on his own bond of €500 and ordered to appear again on April 14 when he will be served with a book of evidence and returned for trial.

Judge Dunne ordered him to surrender his passport, provide gardai with a contact number and sign on three days a week at Crumlin Garda station. He must obey a 10pm-8am curfew except on dates when he is attending dialysis treatment, the judge also said.

Mr Clarke, who is unemployed and was granted legal aid, has not yet indicated how he will plead.
