100 new jobs at PayPal
DUBLIN received a jobs boost today after online payment company PayPal announced the creation of 100 new positions.
The company already employs more than 1,100 people in Ireland, after it opened its European operation centre with just 25 staff in 2003.
The new jobs at Blanchardstown, aimed at people with a second European language, are for permanent positions in customer service and operations.
The Dublin centre manages all direct customer contact for PayPal's businesses across Europe.
Uwe Heddendorp, vice president PayPal European operations, said: "Our European business continues to grow and I am proud to be able to once again support Irish job creation," he added.
Barry O'Leary, chief executive of IDA Ireland, said the news was "further evidence of Ireland's ability to compete for and win high quality technologically advanced Foreign Direct Investment2".
The announcement has come at a time of bad news on the jobs front, with Debenhams revealing it is slashing 170 jobs across its 11 Irish stores.
At the same time, Ryanair said it will cut one-fifth of its flights at Dublin Airport, leading to 150 jobs losses.
