Rangers FC lodges new bid for all-weather pitch
Gorey Rangers AFC is seeking planning permission to construct an all-weather playing surface at its grounds at Ramstown Upper, Gorey.
The club is seeking permission for excavation works to facilitate the construction of the all weather surface with associated lighting and site works.
In a letter accompanying the application, it is explained that permission for a similar development was previously refused for a number of reasons. The club has attempted to address the concerns. It said the proposed Astro-Turf surface will be laid almost directly on top of what is an existing hard surfaced playing area which has been in use for almost 20 years.
The extent of the excavation would be the removal of around 225 mm of dust/sand surface, down to the hardcore beneath, meaning the excavation works would be minimal. The letter adds that because of the poor state of the existing all weather facility, the club is renting indoor facilities outside the town for training in the darker months.
