It was a memorable week for two local showjumpers when Ireland's Under-18 team won bronze at the Longines F.E.I. youths European championships in Fontainebleau, France.

Jack Ryan, who hails from The Rower, was riding his mother's Cavalier Teaca, and Harry Allen from Gorey partnered Ballywalter Farm's Dis Moi Tout De Clairbois.

They were joined on the team by Jason Foley (individual gold) from Carlow, and Kate Derwin from Athlone, while the reserve was Cian Harrison from Sligo.

It was a very tough championship, with 21 teams and a total of 112 riders taking part from 27 nations.

Ireland led after day one, but were down to fourth going into the final round which saw the top ten teams back to battle it out for the medals.

A strong performance from the Irish riders saw them move ahead of the Italians into third place, securing the bronze medal behind winners Belgium, with silver going to Great Britain.
