Singles success for O'Connor
THE DIVISION 3 county singles and doubles, along with the Novice tournament, were held in Ferns on Saturday last.
Singles semi-finals: Jim Cogley (McCrea's) beat John O'Toole (The Forge), 21-11; Paddy O'Connor (Monageer) beat Peter Kenny (The Gap), 21-13.
Singles final: Paddy O'Connor beat Jim Cogley, 21-11.
Doubles semi-finals: Jim Cogley and Ciaran O'Brien (McCrea's) beat Stephen Owens and Paddy O'Connor (Monageer), 21-6; Louis McElwaine and Eamon Cash (Doran's Bridge) beat John O'Toole and Peter Kenny, 21-17.
Doubles final: Louis McElwaine and Eamon Cash beat Jim Cogley and Ciaran O'Brien, 21-20.
The final was a very exciting game. Congratulations to all those who won, and thanks to everyone who participated.
There was also a Novice, or Under-16, tournament. Mikey Sunderland Jnr. (Monageer) beat John Kehoe (Doran's Bridge), 21-13.
Sunderland and Kehoe also won the Novice doubles. Congratulations to them. This was the first tournament for both, so well done.
The Thomas Doyle Memorial open doubles was held in Pairc Mhuire on Sunday last. There was a large turn-out, with 34 players taking part.
Semi-finals: John Joe Byrne (Woodsmen) and John Doyle (Doran's Bridge) beat Michael Redmond (Woodsmen) and Mikey Sunderland (Monageer), 21-15; Paddy Connors (Woodsmen) and Charles Christopher (Monageer) beat Billy McGuire (Doran's Bridge) and Tom Rossiter (McCrea's), 21-11.
Final: Paddy Connors and Charles Christopher beat John Joe Byrne and John Doyle, 21-14.
Well done to the winners, and thanks to everyone who took part. Thanks to John Doyle for running it as the tournament was staged flawlessly.
