There was a great turn-out for the Christmas Mexican scramble.

The winners were: 1, Liz Bennett (9), Anne Breen (15), Ger Donohoe (29), 32.7 points; 2, Ann Conway (13), Magaret Furlong (16). Denise Bolger (16), 33.5 points; 3, Joan Foley (30), Mary Finn (29), Cathy Casey (27), 34.4 points.

Our winter league starts on January 17. If you haven't already put you name on the sheet in the locker room, please do so before the draw which takes place on January 16.

Wishing you all a very happy new year and great golfing in 2015.

NEW ROSS

Harry Doran (13) is proving to be a strong front runner in the winter league as he claimed a win in the third round to establish an imposing lead in the competition over the Christmas break. Leading after two rounds, Harry added a score of 34 points to his other scores of 35 and 34 and has finished first, second and third in the first three rounds - quite an achievement!

Next best was Leo Booth (19) on 33 points with the Captain, Rory Hussey (6), taking third place on 32 points. Mark O'Mahony took the gross with a level par score of 28 points for the 14 holes, whilst Donal Hosey (6, 31 points), Frank Doyle (10, 32 points) and the in-form James O'Brien (19, 31 points) followed suit. The fourth round is scheduled for January 25.

NEW ROSS SENIORS

A mild December day with intermittent light rain was what faced our eleven teams in the final outing for 2014. Once again the veterans defied the elements and some good scores were registered, none more so than the winning total of 93 points posted by a team led by a multi-winning All-Ireland hurler with Kilkenny - a chap with the name of Eddie Keher playing off an eight handicap.

He was well supported by John Hosey (16) who contributed no less than 43 points to his team's total. The other two very effective team members were Eamon Delany (17) and Martin Forristal (20), both of whom came in with scores at vital stages.

Placed second after a countback were Patsy Farrell (10), Richie Aylward (17), Dick Cahill (17) and Larry Shannon (20), recording 90 points. On the same score and in third place came Willie Whitty (15), Luke Power (16), Ger Freyne (16) and Tony Sexton (22). Nearest the pin prizes went to John Shalloe on the ninth hole and Willie Byrne on the eleventh.

We will resume as normal on Thursday, January 8, hoping to see the veterans fully refreshed and eager to go for the new year.

Many thanks to all the golf sports writers, local and national, who carried our results faithfully week after week in 2014 - it was much appreciated.
