The Rosslare-based photographer John Holden has presented his award-winning photograph of a dolphin to the children of Kilrane national school.

John is a keen photographer of Irish wildlife. and regularly posts pictures on his 'Wild About Ireland' Facebook page, hoping to raise awareness of the beautiful wildlife that exists all around us.

In June 2018, he won the Irish Environmental Network Biodiversity Photographer of the Year Award for the second year running with the photograph of a short-beaked Common Dolphin breaking the surface of the water in the sea off West Cork. In 2017, his photograph of a flying Gannet on the Great Saltee Island, took the overall prize.

Earlier this year, John offered people the chance to win the iconic dolphin picture which appeared on the cover of the Irish Times.

He was seeking a new home for the photograph that, in his own words, 'has served me well'. Anna Stack, a teacher in Kilrane National School, successful outlined why she felt the photograph should go to Kilrane school. 'We were delighted with John's decision to present the winning photograph to the school that his own children once attended', said Anna. The photograph will soon be proudly exhibited in the entrance to the purpose-built support classrooms.
