During the hustle and bustle of a busy Friday on Gorey Main Street, transition year student Yasmin Fadian could be seen alongside her parents and siblings doing her bit for a cause that's very important to her.

Yasmin and her father Gerry explained that they were trying to think of something that was outside the box and in the spirit of doing things a little differently, the Fadians held a street raffle on the corner outside Joanne's Café.

'We had never seen a street raffle done before and we decided to look into it. We got a permit from the guards and since then we got a lot of support,' said Gerry.

In May of next year Yasmin will travel to Bucharest with her school friends at Meanscoil Gharman to work at a Romanian orphanage and she is really looking forward to her trip.

'We have to raise €800 each to go and do this charity work. I think we got a good bit of that collected today on Gorey Main Street,' said Yasmin.

'I want to say a huge thank you to the businesses who donated the raffle prizes and as well to the people who bought the tickets.'

The draw for the raffle was held the day after this.
