Wexford Chamber members set to vote on county merger
An extraordinary general meeting of Wexford Chamber of Industry and Commerce is due to take place at the end of March to allow members to vote on a proposed restructuring plan to amalgamate with Gorey and New Ross Chambers.
Wexford Chamber secretary Karl Fitzpatrick issued a notice of the meeting which will be held in the Wexford Chamber offices in Hill Street on March 28 at 8pm.
All members are entitled to vote on the proposal to create a single County Wexford Chamber between the three chambers and to adopt a new Constitution.
If the proposal is successful, the members will also be asked to authorise the Chamber to transer the assets and liabilities of the Wexford company to a new amalgamated entity, to be called County Wexford Chamber of Industry and Commerce Limited by Guarantee.
On amalgamation, the existing members of the Wexford Chamber will become members of the County Wexford Chamber.
Enniscorthy Chamber previously rejected the opportunity to amalgamate with the three other Chambers of Commerce in the county, saying that the best interests of its members could only be served by remaining independent at this time.
