Tommy was tops in poker classic
TOMMY Farrell came up trumps at the recent Buffer's Alley Poker Classic, when he claimed the top prize at the tournament.
Almost 100 players went head to head in the event at the Buffer's Alley complex, generously sponsored by Lawler's of Morriscastle.
In all, €1,700 was given out in prizes, which was a big increase on last year's prize fund. The final table was not for the faint hearted with the winner in doubt up to the last hand. Richard Johnson again made the final table, and claimed second place this year.
The final placings were as follows: 1, Tommy Farrell; 2, Richard Johnson; 3, Cecil Willoughby; 4, Thomas Walshe; 5, Dolores Rapple; 6, Johnny Dempsey. All finalists will receive complimentary entry to next year's classic. Seán 'Bubbles' O'Leary received a prize for first Poker, and Seán Breen was the winner of the first Straight Flush. There was no Royal Flush winner this year. Henry Butler was the winner of the door prize which was kindly sponsored by Hammel's Centra, Kilmuckridge.
This year, the Classic was run in conjunction with the upcoming Strictly Club Dancing event, and a spokesperson for the club said that there has been incredible support for the numerous fundraisers which have been held so far. A huge thank you was sent to Dorothy Kenny and her team for organising the half-time refreshments. The committee also thanked Fr. Jim Doyle; Majella Murphy; MC Ben Martin; and the many club members who helped out.
