Well-known local artist and teacher at Gorey Community School Paul McCloskey has just received a prestigious international visual art award.
An international jury at this year's Osten Biennial of Drawing in Skopje, Macedonia, selected him for the special award. The jury included: art critic Ursula Bode from Germany; Bulgarian artist Venceslav Antonov; and artist Patricia Schnell-Guetierrez from the USA. The Biennial of Drawing included participants from 66 countries who entered 2,246 artworks for the award.
Paul entered five large charcoal works almost six months ago, and final judging took place in recent weeks.
His five works will now form a permanent part of the national collection of the Museum of Drawing/Works on Paper' in Macedonia.
Paul has enjoyed considerable success with his work in recent years including being one of only 30 international artists selected to exhibit at Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf in South Bank, London, last October. He was chosen jointly by Art Now and The Artists Fair in London.
He also received a special invite to exhibit in an international group exhibit in the Louvre, Paris, last July, and received three special recognition awards at the 15th annual Abstraction International Art Exhibition at the 'Upstream Gallery.'
Paul is a graduate of NCAD, Dublin, and De Montfort university in the UK, where he received his Masters in Fine Art.
He has been interviewed for and featured in numerous important publications over the past few years. As a Fine Art professional winner, his paintings were included in New York's visual art journal 'Creative Quarterly'.
He featured in 'International Artists' magazine in August, and his works were featured in two book editions of the London publication 'The State of Art.'
Recently, Jonathan Raddatz featured a beautifully written overview of Paul's works for his book 'Exhibeo - Selected Art Reviews and Interviews - Vol. 1.'
As part of the formal Osten Biennial award, Paul's works will be exhibited at a special showing of awarded international artists in the 'World Gallery of Drawing' in Skopje from September 22 to October 27.
