Many gathered in Camolin for the official opening of Little Lucy's Playground on Tuesday morning.

The Dunbar family, Cathaoirleach of Gorey Municipal District Cllr Joe Sullivan and Chairman of Camolin Community Development Association Jack Redmond opened the playground, which is in memory of five-year old Lucy Dunbar who sadly passed away in 2013.

Cllr Sullivan welcomed her parents, Catherine and George Dunbar, and her brother Eamonn. He outlined the importance of remembering Lucy in what he hoped would be a happy and fun-filled place for the children of Camolin.

The Camolin community struggled to come to terms with the loss of little Lucy, who passed away in her sleep. Her unexpected death from a rare bacterial infection has devastated all who knew and loved her.

Even though the weather did not suit the occasion, a large number of adults and children attended the official opening. Lucy's classmates recited poetry in her memory and the event finished with a song from them while four doves were released in her honour.

Mr Redmond thanked the Camolin Community Development Association committee for the wonderful work they carried out over the past few years and also the Council for their assistance with the planning and funding for the playground.

Refreshments were then provided for all in the local community hall.
