The somewhat 'milder' weather attracted 100 brave swimmers for the 46th annual Courtown Hibs Christmas Day swim.

The swimmers, who plunged into the icy water in aid of Courtown RNLI, were supported by a crowd of 150 people who cheered them all on.

John Carroll, one of the organisers, said they raised more than €350 for the RNLI that will be presented to them at a later date,

'The number of swimmers was definitely up this year, but I think that was because of the milder weather,' said John.

The Courtown Hibs swim has been a major fundraiser since 1972, with funds mostly going to the club but this year they decided to raise money for a local cause.

The club thanked all those who took part in the swim and to those who donated on the day and leading up to the event through sponsorship. Special thanks went to Courtown RNLI.
