Huge jobs boost for Bunclody

A new nursing home in Bunclody, that will open its doors for the first time this morning, will create 70 new jobs in the local area.

SignaCare Bunclody is located in the building that was formally the Mill Race Hotel.

Speaking to this newspaper about the opening the General Manager of the nursing home, Margaret-Anne Walsh, said that 20 staff members will be on-site this week with a further roll out of positions over the coming weeks.

'We focus on internal training and we are starting off with people who have experience within the healthcare centre environment,' said Ms Walsh.

However, she also emphasised that applications are being sought from people who don't have such experience as well as 'their life skills' could possibly be utilised within the centre as well.

There is potential for career development and progression within the business.

'We [will] have work experience people who come in from training centres to help them up-skill as well,' said Ms Walsh.

'If you do not have a healthcare background the [your] life experience could be very important too,' she added.

'We support and develop staff as well.'

Ms Walsh said there will be 20 staff members employed in the nursing home to begin with but added: 'We will be building it up and selecting new staff each week.'

Ms Walsh said families who might have potential nursing home residents are invited to go in and view the facilities in the facility.

While the nursing home opened its doors today Ms Walsh said there will be an official open day event in the coming weeks.

While today's opening will see staff training taking place in the nursing home the first residents will enter the facility on Thursday.

When the nursing home is fully staffed SignaCare will provide 150 jobs throughout county Wexford.

Ms Walsh said there has been 'huge interest' in the facility within the local community.

She said a strong emphasis within the SignaCare centres is interaction with residents and liaising with family members to ensure all concerns are addressed and that the needs of the residents are fully catered for.
