Hollywood comes to Gorey in aid of St Aidan's Services
A novel fundraiser will take place in Gorey this year in aid of St Aidan's Services.
The Gorey-based day care centre is hosting its very own version of the Oscarz and are looking for people who have always dreamed of becoming a movie star.
The St Aidan's Oscarz will cast local people in starring roles of Hollywood movies, re-enacting famous scenes for ten-minute videos which will be aired on the night.
A film crew will shoot the scenes with the local people, who will be provided with costumes, makeup and props.
Before filming begins, the participants will receive acting coaching and all the basics required to become movie stars.
A gala awards night featuring a panel of star judges will then select the winners, with all the usual awards and acceptance speeches to follow.
The St Aidan's Oscarz will take place on Saturday, November 16 in the Amber Springs Hotel.
St Aidan's provides day, residential, respite, pre-school, elderly services and training services to over 250 individuals. It also provides meals-on-wheels to the local community four-days-a-week and 130 staff are employed throughout the services.
'This promises to be one of the highlights of the social calendar in 2019,' said St Aidan's board member Diarmuid Devereux.
'We're all familiar with charity fundraisers like Strictly Come Dancing or white collar boxing, where local people dedicate their time to prepare for a big performance at the end.
'Our Oscarz night takes this even further, casting local people in their favourite movie, with a professional film crew turning them into a movie star for one night only.
'We are looking for local people with a great sense of humour who aren't afraid to strut their stuff on camera.'
