Hardy swimmers help good causes
Hundreds of volunteers braved the icy waters on New Years Day in North Wexford for two charity swims.
The Tara Vale Swimmers dived head first at Ballymoney beach in front of a great crowd to raise funds for the Jack & Jill Foundation, North Wexford Hospice Homecare, St Patrick's Special School in Enniscorthy and Courtown RNLI.
Seventy hardy swimmers took to the water in Cahore for the annual swim in aid of Cahore Inshore Rescue Service. Gerry O'Loughlin Hon secretary from Cahore Inshore Rescue said they had a massive crowd to support the participants.
Since starting the Cahore swim in 1995, Gerry said they have raised thousands of money for the Rescue Service.
Meanwhile, Eamonn O'Connor from the Tara Vale Swimmers said they were 'extremely lucky' as the weather was very fine for the hour they swam. 'This was our 12th year,' said Eamonn. 'Since we started in 2006 we have raised over €140,000 for numerous charities.'
