Gorey's newest road has been named 'Scholar's Walk'. The name stone on the latest link in the inner relief road at Creagh was unveiled by the cathaoirleach of Gorey Municipal District Joe Sullivan recently.

The name was suggested by Vivienne Forristal who said that the road is a route to four schools, and use of the word 'walk' would remind parents of alternatives to the car, and raise awareness among other drivers of the presence of schools in the area.

Cllr Sullivan said the completion of this section of road was 'long-awaited'.

'This road provides a very important thoroughfare for all road users, including cars, cyclists and pedestrians linking the west end of Gorey with the north end,' he said. 'It has already proven an invaluable access route for students accessing four important educational centres. The newly completed section is 150 metres and was completed at a cost of just over €200,000 which will hopefully stand the test of time, and prove great value for money.'

He looked forward to the start of redevelopment work on Gorey Town Park and Showgrounds in the coming year, and said a programme of redevelopment is also currently being prepared for the Market House.
