Gorey gets behind SOCGA

Cathy Lee

Special Olympics Club Gorey Area (SOCGA) recently benefited from a church gate collection in Gorey as well as from Roisin Duncan's participation in the Women's Mini Marathon.

Over €1,000 was collected during the collection, while Roisin Duncan managed to raise €500 in sponsorship before taking part in the Women's Mini Marathon this year.

'Special Olympics Club Gorey Area would like to say thank you to all who contributed to our recent church gate collection, as well as those volunteers who collected on the day,' said Roisin Duncan, who is the secretary of SOCGA.

The group have had a very busy year, particularly with the success of athlete John Doyle, who returned home in March with two bronze medals for Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.

Roisin would also like to thank everyone who sponsored her in the run up to her participation in the mini marathon.

In September, training and classes in aquatics, badminton, bocce and football will return, and anybody interested in finding out more can contact Aidan Kelly by email at s.o.c.g.a.gorey@gmail.com.
