Gorey garda promoted to Sergeant
A member of the Gardai who has served all of his time to-date in Gorey has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant and will take up a position in New Ross Garda Station.
Sergeant Ian Hayes, who is originally from Co Kildare, lives in the Gorey area and is married with two children.
He arrived in Gorey Garda Station from Templemore in January 2001 and spent all of his subsequent time on the force here.
A spokesperson for the Gardai said Sergeant Hayes 'displayed an aptitude for crime investigation at an early stage in his career'.
That natural flair led to him being assigned to detective duties in 2004.
'He has been involved in the detection of a number of high profile crimes in the district in the intervening years and is held in high regard throughout the community,' said the spokesperson.
'All his colleagues here in Gorey and throughout the district are delighted with his promotion to the rank of Sergeant and wish him the very best of luck,' he added.
'He will remain In Gorey for a number of weeks until he is formally transferred to [New Ross]'.
