Gorey Community School celebrating 25 years of GAA
Gorey Community School is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The school was formed in September 1993 when the Loreto, CBS and Vocational Schools amalgamated to form the school. Over the years thousands of students have passed through the corridors of the school, many of them representing Gorey CS in various sports, musicals, concerts, debates and competitions.
The GAA has always played a central role in the development of the students at the school and to mark this there will be a celebratory dinner dance in the Ashdown Park Hotel on May 3.
This will be a great opportunity for past players, partners and supporters to meet up and reminisce about famous victories and glorious defeats while catching up with friends, teachers and fellow players that they haven't seen in a while.
On the night the 25 year 'All Star' teams in football, hurling, camogie and ladies football will be announced having being picked from nominations on the Gorey CS Facebook page.
They will also dedicate the Larry Doyle Cup in honour of the former teacher and coach at the school who helped develop so many players in his time in the vocational and community schools.
This is a night for all who contributed or ever took an interest in the school's GAA history and organisers are hoping to see as many past pupils as possible on the night.
They also paid tribute to the assistance they have received from all the clubs in the North Wexford District over the last 25 years.
The main GAA sponsor at the school is Altura Credit Union while Gorey Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the All Star awards.
Tickets cost €40. There will be a four-course meal, dancing to a live band and DJ on the night. Further details can be found on the GoreyCS GAA Facebook page or (053)9421000.
