Hundreds of eager children waited outside Gorey Shopping Centre on Saturday for Santa's grand arrival.

Santa, along with his little helpers, travelled from the north pole, through Gorey's Main Street and stopped at the shopping centre. He was accompanied by George McMahon, who plays Mondo in Fair City, and David O'Sullivan, who plays Decco Bishop in Fair City.

Both George and David gave Santa a helping hand in passing out some gifts he brought along with him from the north pole for the kids of Gorey.

Niamh O'Byrne, centre manager, said Santa arrived in style this year and was brought up through Gorey by the Santa Express Train, accompanied by characters from some much-loved films and TV programmes.

'It was a brilliant day and it all went really well,' said Niamh. 'Our two celebrities George and David were a real hit with all of the kids who recognised them from the television.'

To coincide with Santa's arrival, the Gorey Shopping Centre declared Santa's Grotto officially opened for kids who can either post their Christmas letters or pay the main man himself a visit.
