A Montessori playschool at Clonattin Lower has been granted permission by Wexford County Council to expand its business.

Erika's Montessori Playschool will place a new permanent two-storey standalone childcare structure to accommodate two childcare rooms which will hopefully be completed before the school term starts in September.

They also have permission for alterations to their temporary playschool, but this will be removed before August 31, 2021 or once the new building is constructed.

Erika Chambers wishes to build the stand alone permanent structure for use as a playschool and to remove the need for the temporary classroom.

During construction of the temporary classroom in 2016, it was clear that the proposed shape of the unit would not adequately fit on the site and that a revised layout including a step in the elevation of the building was needed.

'We are absolutely delighted that our planning application for a new preschool building was approved,' said Erika. 'We are still waiting approval of capital funding for the project from the Department of Children, but all going well we hope to be in a position to complete the building before the new school terms starts.'

Erika currently runs a playschool from her house and the temporary classroom structure. They are currently full to capacity, with a waiting list, and want to expand the playschool to accommodate everyone.

'This will be the start of our 12th year and with two new classrooms we will be able to offer free ECCE preschool places to all of the children on our waiting list,' said Erika.

Additional car parking spaces and a small all weather playground area were also proposed.

Erika said they expect to begin an after school service for primary school children also and will have 16 places available.
