The organisers of the Enniscorthy Blackstairs Blues festival worked very hard at ensuring this year's event was one of the best ever and they succeeded in every way.

The festival had a diverse range of acts in the line-up featuring some established and highly regarded leading international acts to local blues artists.

The significant thing about the festival is that is gives the same exposure to artists regardless of their background of pedigree.

For the local artists like the BC Blues Band and the Victor Stafford Trio is was a great opportunity to highlight the fact that one doesn't have to travel to the deep south and the likes of Mississippi, Georgia or Alabama to witness top quality blues played with passion and sincerity.

There were fantastic performances witnessed throughout the weekend with the likes of Austin Walkin' Cane being a particular highlight.

He also attended other events throughout the festival weekend including the Rory Gallagher showcase by his brother Dónal in Enniscorthy Castle.

Dermot Byrne and Daniel De Vita, Grainne Duffy, Blues Confidential and David King showcased the wide depth and breadth of the blues genre in all its guises while fans of Rory Gallagher were treated to an in-depth analysis of his style courtesy of tribute act, Deuce.

During an event in Enniscorthy Castle the band's guitar player, provided a comprehensive expose of the late blues rock legend's style and how he worked at getting his trademark sound.

It was an insightful showcase event that was very well received by those in attendance.

The fact that organisers of the blues festival are sincerely passionate about the genre and the event was evident in everything that took place.

From the eclectic and diverse nature of the acts involved to the venues chosen to host specific gigs.

Blues is a genre that, perhaps more than any other, is all about feeling.

It's the embodiment of everything that is powerful and good about music and last weekend that fact that highlighted in exemplary fashion in Enniscorthy.

The Mirenda Rosenberg Trio, the Jim Finn Quartet, David King, and Thomas Ford were among the other star names on a weekend of truly fantastic music.
